Yet, while it is a century that continues to be central to modern constructions of nationwide id, it’s a period associated with men. Until just lately, the history of girls in eighteenth-century Scotland, with maybe the honourable exception of Flora McDonald, remained unwritten. Over the last decade nevertheless, research on women and gender in Scotland has flourished and we’ve an more and more full picture of women’s lives at all social ranges throughout the century. Divided into three sections, overlaying women’s intimate, intellectual and public lives, this interdisciplinary volume presents articles on women’s work, legal exercise, clothes, family, training, writing, journey and more.
